Kudos to Microsoft for its Mobile Challenge awards for nonprofits for awarding two of its awards to green projects. The criteria for its grants is working on issues of the UN Millennial Development Goals, a great set of guiding principles.
Because they were so impressed with the AMIS project from Cameroon, the judges awarded it an honorary mention and added a $1,000 grant.

Here's a video for more info about AMIS:
Second place in the MS Mobile Challenge went to Face The Change, which won $10,000 towards an SMS and MMS based system to involve Bangladeshi villagers in policy-making around climate change, which is expected to significantly affect them, as the country is at or below sea level in many places. You can read more about the project on the NetSquared web site.
